ABSTRACT
The paper addresses the problem of implementing and using image segmentation algorithms prior to the recognition process in machine vision systems. Several segmentation algorithms are presented and implemented, representing typical examples from the groups of edge and boundary detection, transformation, threshold processing, region-based operations, and others. All algorithms are implemented in the MATLAB environment, with graphical results also presented. Through profiling in MATLAB, results for execution time, memory usage, and the number of pixels in the segmented region are shown in order to enable comparison and analysis.
