ABSTRACT
The implementation of smart grids in Bulgaria is driven by the need to improve the efficiency of energy produc-tion and distribution, increase reliability, enable consumers to control their consumption, and reduce the nega-tive impact of the electricity industry on climate change. The introduction of smart grids in the country will have numerous advantages related to improving the existing electricity transmission network, using energy from re-newable sources, etc. Challenges in the implementation of smart grids arise from the need for significant finan-cial resources, infrastructure problems, and cyber risks.
