ABSTRACT
In 1835, the first mutual school with secular content of education , which was conducted entirely in Bulgarian, was opened. The school gave impetus to the development of independent virgin education, which began in 1856. The establishment of the women’s society „Maternal Care” in 1869 further accelerated the education processes in the city. Together with the school board, it provided funds for the support of virgins. This process naturally led to the opening of the first virgin boarding house in the city in 1870. Its management and organization is associated with the name of Anastasia Tosheva.
